Well, it arrived last Wednesday, just four days after ordering – not bad for an order that was placed on a Saturday afternoon – especially when you taken into account order processing time, and the fact that most online companies don’t process or ship orders on weekends. Everything that I ordered (cat treats for the cats, a beef chew, sweet potato treats, and 3-month flea treatment for the dog) arrived neatly packaged in a secure, well-marked box, and the pets and I excitedly dug in.

My experience with Mr. Chewy was a great one. They have a great selection of products, a website set up so that it’s quite easy to find products by category, price, or from a specific search; decent prices; and fast shipping.

For those of you that don’t know, I’m a crazy cat lady that is only somewhat reined in by the dimensions of my house and the number of people in it. Currently we have four cats in our household, along with a dog, as well as two hamsters, and four fish (three different tanks). The hamsters and fish are dirt-cheap to take care of, and it’s not often I have to stock up on supplies for them. But when it comes to the dog and especially the cats, I don’t go more than two weeks without having to purchase something, whether it be food, litter (for the cats), treats, or the occasional medication.

Mr. Chewy is an online store worth checking out if you have cats or dogs, and are interested in the good deals and convenience that go hand-in-hand with online shopping. Mr. Chewy carries a large selection of dog and cat food (including prescription foods), treats, litter for cats, housebreaking pads for dogs, and a small but decent selection of flea and tick medication for dogs and cats.

The people at Mr. Chewy were kind enough to offer me the opportunity to review their website. I just completed my checkout process, which couldn’t have been quicker or easier. Browsing the store was easy, thanks to the organized presentation of everything, and easy-to-navigate categories and sub-categories. Free shipping is offered on orders of $50 or more (an easy promotion to take advantage of if you purchase any flea or tick medication, or any of the higher end brands of food and treats), so I used the sort by price feature to pick out the right combination of items in order to qualify for that. The checkout process was simple, and I already received my order confirmation.

So far, I’m impressed with the ease and elegance of Mr. Chewy. I’ll update with a full review once I have received my order!

I’m not one to take photos of my cats’ litter box and post it on the internet, but after purchasing Tidy Cats Scoop Instant Action and having to replace an entire box worth of the cat litter after two days of use, I think I’m a little justified:

True to their word, Tidy Cats Scoop Instant Action is quick to attack and neutralize odors. And it’s mostly dust-free (better, in fact, than the other cat litter brands I use) – I will acknowledge and give credit where credit is due. But that’s about all the litter has to offer. The photo should speak for itself: see the black bits and spots? Those are clumps that essentially dissolved not long after forming, and when I go to scoop them up, no matter how gently I scoop, just the action of gently scooping up the clumps causes the clumps to dissolve further.

My consensus? Tidy Cats Scoop Instant Action sucks, hardcore, and it’s one cat litter I will never purchase again.

On September 17th, 2011, I purchased a Comfort Zone for Cats and plugged it into the half bathroom where I keep the litter box for our four cats. Despite scooping litter twice per day, changing it weekly, and keeping the bathroom clean at all times (sweeping, mopping, cleaning the sink and toilet, etc.), one of our four cats, Kirin, had been urinating outside of the litter box at least once every few days since early summer, which was right around when we had some stressful events taking place in our lives, and in our household.

Tomorrow will be the three week mark since I plugged in the Comfort Zone for Cats. And you know what? It works. I was reluctant to spend nearly $50 on a product that I was uncertain as to the results of, but three weeks without so much as a drop of cat urine being anywhere other than in the litter box, where it belongs? The proof is in the pudding, my friends — or in this case it’s in the cat litter box, in the form of nice little clumps. Three weeks without a single mess. Prior to purchasing and installing the Comfort Zone for Cats in our bathroom, I was lucky to go more than three days without having a god awful mess to clean up! The Comfort Zone for Cats really does create a calming, trusting, non-stressful environments for cats who are inexplicably or even inexplicably stressed out and thus urinating in unwanted areas. This is one “questionable” product I will be keeping around, and will happily purchase refills for. Thanks Comfort Zone!

Several months ago, one of our four cats, Kirin, began to periodically urinate outside of the litter box. This behavior has continued to occur, despite me scooping litter two to three times per day, changing litter weekly, even trying different litter, a different litter box, different deodorizer, etc. Now, we’ve had some stressful situations take place between the end of last April and June, but since then life has become more normal, and definitely less stressful. But still the bad behavior has continued. I am going to take Kirin to our veterinarian to make sure that there is nothing physically wrong, but since the unwanted urination doesn’t happen all the time or every day, and sometimes happens in different parts of the bathroom, I have the issue pegged to something behavioral.

Today, while at Petco, I decided to pick up a Comfort Zone for Cats. While the Comfort Zone package is not cheap ($46!), the price is well worth it if the product works. And from everything I’ve read online and even heard from a few family members, Comfort Zone does work. How does it work, exactly? Well, the diffuser plugs into an electrical outlet just like an air freshener does, and the heat-activated oils that are released contain pheromones and special chemicals that are designed to calm cats and help to identify the area that the diffuser is in as a “safe” area.

In addition to helping to calm and solve cats of urination issues, Comfort Zone for Cats is also advertised to help reduce and solve other destructive behaviors, such as chewing and clawing.

I am really, really hoping that the Comfort Zone works, as it is not a cheap product. I’ll update in a few weeks with hopefully good results!
