I say pleasure because this is seriously the best contact lens solution I have ever tried. I have been wearing contact lenses for three and a half years now, and my biggest complaint with solution is that my contact lenses always seem to dry out too quickly the next day — usually within 10-12 hours of wear I’m reaching for eye drops. But with Biotrue, I’ve been able to comfortably wear my contact lenses for 10, 12, 14, even 16 and 18 hours without experiencing the dryness I’m used to experiencing. In fact, my contact lenses feel as fresh as a brand new pair once I’ve soaked them overnight in Biotrue, even if I’ve already been using them for a few weeks.

What makes Biotrue so different is that it is designed to have a formula that is similar to that of your natural tears, so that your contacts feel naturally moist and lubricated. Bausch + Lomb created Biotrue because they wanted a contact lens solution that was inspired by the biology of our eyes — and they definitely succeeded!

Psst… don’t forget to play the Biotrue Instant Win Game for a chance at a free reusable tote bag!

P.S. Want to try Biotrue? Use this $1 coupon!

I have been wearing contact lenses for over three years now, and my biggest complaint is dealing with significant dryness and resulting irritation (sticky contacts, sticking eyelids, blurred vision) after 10-12 hours of use. My husband has been wearing contacts for a little over a year now, and his biggest complaint is struggling to get his contacts in and in place in the mornings. We’ve tried different types of contact lens solution as well as different types of contact lenses, but haven’t had much luck with our respective issues with contacts.

So when I was recently contacted about an opportunity to review Biotrue, Bausch + Lomb’s revolutionary contact lens solution that is designed to mimic the eye’s natural lubrication (it contains one of the same components!) and pH balance, I couldn’t say yes fast enough. Biotrue also promotes the activity of tear proteins, which means keeping your eyes and thus your contacts moist and more comfortable feeling for a longer period of time.

My husband and I have been using Biotrue for several weeks now, and here’s what we’ve found:

My contacts feel softer and more supple in the morning

I’m no longer having to use rewetting drops on an hourly basis once my contacts have been in for 10-12 hours

I’ve gone as long as 22 hours (Black Friday, heh) with my contacts in and only needed eye drops once

My husband has had an easier time of getting his contacts in place in the mornings

He too reports that his contacts feel softer and more comfortable than before

Needless to say, we’re both pretty sold on Biotrue. He was a bit skeptical and I wasn’t sure how well Biotrue would perform, but it has easily exceeded both of our expectations.

Want to try Biotrue? You can get it at any local retailer that carries contact lens solution. Psst… go here and fill out the form for a $1 coupon!

I have been wearing contact lenses for a little over three years now, and during the last three years I have worn only two types. First, there was Bausch & Lomb PureVision. Then, last year, I switched to bi-weekly disposables — Acuvue Oasys. My main reason for switching was simple: PureVision lenses, which were monthly disposables, were breaking down well before the month was out, which led to me replacing them with fresh pairs more often, which led to me having to purchase more contact lenses than anticipated.

My biggest issue with contact lenses is dryness, as well as the occasional bout of eye overuse/strain. I work from home, and between my job and the freelancing I do on the side I spend a good 40-50 hours per week in front of a computer. We have forced air in our home for heat, air conditioners for cooling, and ceiling fans in all three bedrooms and our living room. Dryness is my number one complaint with contacts, and it’s why on the days I’m not going out anywhere I’ll often be lazy and wear glasses instead. The alternative is using rewetting drops — which I rely on pretty heavily (so heavily, in fact, that I have a bottle in my purse, a bottle in the bedroom, another in the bathroom, and one in each of our cars).

So when Acuvue wanted to find out if I would be interested in trying out their newest line of contact lenses, 1 Day Acuvue TruEye, I couldn’t say yes fast enough. As the name implies, AcuVue TruEye is a daily disposable. These contact lenses are designed to maintain the natural state of the eye, which means that, among other things, hydration and moisture are high up on the list. The contact lenses are made out of silicone hydrogel material — and these are the first and only contact lenses to future this material. HYDRACLEAR 1 technology is implemented in order to keep contacts comfortable for all day wear.

1 Day Acuvue TruEye contact lenses are available in nearsighted and farsighted prescriptions, though at this time they are not available for astigmatism (which I have in my right eye). They feature Class I UVA and UVB protection, which means that up to 100% of radiation is blocked. The unique silicone hydrogel material means that 96% of oxygen in the environment can reach your eye.

I have been wearing 1 Day Acuvue TruEye contact lenses for almost a month now, and I’m fairly certain I’m going to be making an appointment with my optometrist to get switched over to them. As Acuvue claims, these are truly the most moisture-friendly contact lenses I have experienced to date. I’ve worn them up to 20 hours at a time, and only had to pop in eye drops once — as opposed to my normal contacts, which require 1-3 applications of eye drops after just 10-12 hours of wear. These contact lenses are insanely comfortable, too. Since I’m wearing two different contacts (1 Day Acuvue TruEye in my left eye, Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism in my right eye), I can definitely feel a difference in both how each contact lens feels, and how moist each one is. Acuvue TruEye beats out the others, that’s for certain.

My only critique about 1 Day Acuvue TruEye is that they adhere to your eye almost too well. On more than one occasion I’ve had to struggle to remove them. But on the bright side, there’s no definitely no risk of losing a contact! And once the contacts are out, it’s almost a shame to throw them out, because they still feel and look so “fresh” — as if they could easily go for another day or two of wear.

If you’re looking to switch to a daily disposable, or simply want to try out contacts that don’t dry out and never feel anything less than wonderful, definitely give 1 Day Acuvue TruEye a try! If you check out the website, you’ll be able to print out a coupon for a free 10 day trial of them, and then print out a rebate to use when purchasing a full supply of them!

I have been wearing them (they’re bi-weeklies) since February 13th, 2010, and even today, on the day that I should have replaced them with a fresh pair, they’re still going strong. I can definitely detect the tiniest bit of wear, and for the past three nights my eyes have been a bit dry, but other than that they’re perfect! There hasn’t been any of the protein deposit build-up that I dealt with on my previous contacts (Bausch & Lomb PureVision), and no premature breakdown of the lenses themselves. Thank god. Nothing is more irritating than working at computer — which I do for all of my employment — and having to stop mid-sentence or mid-design because my contacts are blurry and foggy.

On a related note, Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism, which I use for my right eye, are absolutely incredible. They’re a little thicker than the standard contact lenses, which took some getting used to, but they position themselves automatically, don’t rotate out of position, and my vision is crystal-freaking-clear. For the first time in two and a half YEARS I am able to view my laptop monitor AND my desktop monitor comfortably, and from any angle. I couldn’t be happier.

On Saturday I went in for my yearly contact lens exam, and in addition to finding out that my prescription had changed, I also had a change in the type of contact lenses I use. I requested the change, because I have been dealing with a lot of protein deposits on the Bausch & Lomb PureVision contact lenses I have been using since November 2007.

As this blog entry title suggests, I made the switch to Acuvue Oasys. They’re bi-weekly disposables, which I hope I’ll have better luck with, since I’ll be changing them more frequently. I’ve heard good things about them, just as I’ve heard about cocoa butter stretch marks. Also, my husband has been using them since October, and he seems to have good results with them.

So far? I like them. I’m actually using Acuvue Oasys in my left eye and Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism in my right eye, so I guess technically I’m reviewing two different types of contacts!

My printer woes have been resolved: I found a barely used B9180 on eBay that wasn’t much more than what I paid for the 8750.
The contacts I ordered from Vision Direct finally arrived on April 12th. Buyer beware: you won’t receive your order in a timely manner, so make sure you have three or four weeks available with your current contacts, or a replacement pair, before ordering from this company. I’ll certainly keep that in mind, if I choose to use them again. They had the best priced contacts and free shipping, but I don’t know if I want to do business with a company that didn’t ship out my contacts until the day after when I should have received them.

Speaking of sight, I need to pick up a pair of glasses for my grandfather. He wants magnifying glasses, like the ones at firststreetonline.com, but I think it would better to take him and get his eyes examined, and then pick out prescription glasses that would fit him perfectly. But trying telling him that. Ugh. Why must he be so stubborn?!
