Purex Complete Crystals it he first “solid” fabric softener. It comes in small granule form, and is designed to be added to a load of laundry directly — you skip the dispenser. Purex Complete Crystals promises to thoroughly soften and lightly scent your clothing, and to provide long-lasting softness and scent.

I used an entire bottle of Purex Complete Crystals, and honestly, I’m not impressed. Don’t get me wrong, it provides very nice softening agents as well as a nice, light scent. But it doesn’t seem to do any better than the standard liquid fabric softener that Purex also makes. And besides, the liquid softener is cheaper and covers more loads.

Overall, while I like Purex Complete Crystals, it doesn’t do anything special, and so I can’t justify its price.

With two young children, four cats and a dog, if there is one thing I do multiple times a week, it’s mop my kitchen floor, along with the bathrooms’ floors and the tiled area my husband recently installed in our living room, right behind the front door. For years I have switched up between the Clorox ReadyMop, the Swiffer WetJet, and a standard wring mop, but with the first two I was annoyed at having to purchase special (read: overpriced) pads and cleansers; and with the later, I hated the mess of a wringing style mop.

Then, a few months ago, while doing some routine shopping at Target, I noticed a pretty spiffy looking mop – the Rubbermaid Reveal Spray Mop. What makes this mop different from others is that it is outfitted with a special microfiber pad that is washable and reusable. The idea of not having to worry about stocking up on overpriced disposable pads that seem to get soiled way too quickly had me sold right there. Then I noticed the the spray bottle — it was designed to be filled with any cleanser! Needless to say, the Rubbermaid Reveal Spray Mop quickly found a spot in my shopping cart.

From the get-go the Rubbermaid Reveal Spray Mop has been a breeze to use. The microfiber pad attaches and detaches from the bottom easily (but it stays put when you need it to; tiny “teeth” all over the bottom of the mop hold the pad in place), and is easy enough to wash (hot, no fabric softener, line dry). The bottle is easy to remove from the mop and fill, and I love that I can use any type of floor cleanser in it (my preferred cleanser is Mr. Clean All Purpose Multi-Surface Liquid Cleaner).

As far as cleaning goes, the Rubbermaid Reveal Spray Mop is easy to use and very flexible, so it’s easy to go from making broad sweeps across my kitchen floor to maneuvering the mop around the contours of the cats’ litter box or the toilets.

Rubbermaid themselves stand behind the quality of the Rubbermaid Reveal Spray Mop, which they proved recently when I tweeted about my mop breaking during routine use. They were quick to reach out to me on Twitter, replied to my email promptly, and sent me a coupon for a replacement mop right away. Thanks to Rubbermaid, I only had to go seven days without a mop!

To wrap up this rather long-winded review, if you’re looking for a mop that you can use on the various hard surfaces in your home, a mop that allows you to wash and reuse a high-quality cleansing pad, and use your own cleansers, then the Rubbermaid Reveal Spray Mop is exactly what you’re looking for.

I picked up a bottle of Clorox Clean-Up Cleaner — a multi-purpose bleach-containing cleaner meant to be used to clean and disinfect various hard surfaces around your home — last week with the intent of using it on our bathtub, which has been stained pink in a few areas from my hair dye. It worked perfectly! What months of manual scrubbing and the spraying of general shower disinfectants and cleansers couldn’t take away the Clorox Clean-Up Cleanser took away within a matter of hours. I’ve also used it in my bathroom sinks, on my kitchen counters and in the kitchen sink, and on a few other items around the house. Since it does contain bleach, you need to take care around fabrics and porous surfaces that are more delicate, but overall it’s a great product to keep around the house, especially in bathrooms!

I’m admit it: I’m spoiled. About two years ago I started using both liquid fabric softener and dryer sheets, and there’s no way I can go back to the days of using nothing other than dryer sheets. I can instantly tell the difference between clothes that have been washed with liquid fabric softener and a dryer sheet, and clothes that have only been washed with a dryer sheet.

Well, I ran out of liquid fabric softener in the middle of last week, but when I picked up more, I skipped over my usual choice — Downy Simple Pleasures — in favor of Purex Complete Crystals, which I have been hearing a lot about lately. Purex Complete Crystals are granules of fabric softener that you add directly to the load of laundry (in the drum, not in the dispenser of your washer). They’re safe for both standard and HE washers, which was a relief to me.

I’ve used them in a few loads of laundry, but I’ve yet to use them with our “main” laundry — jeans, play clothes and such. I’ll report back with my review once I’ve really given Purex Complete Crystals a thorough run through their paces!

While I’ve used other Purex detergents in the past, I haven’t used Natural Elements (hadn’t even seen it, for that matters), and since it was on sale, I decided to give it a try. Ultra Purex Natural Elements features “naturally sourced” cleaning ingredients, as well as fragrance extracts that are naturally occuring. The detergent is designed to be free of dyes and hypoallergenic — perfect for those individuals who have sensitive skin and find regular detergents to be irritating. There are several scents available, and I chose Linen & Lilies.

I have used Ultra Purex Natural Elements for several loads worth of wash, and I really like it. A little seems to go a long way (a $7 bottle will cover almost 50 loads of laundry in an HE machine!), but more importantly it gets the clothes clean, and doesn’t leave behind a strong or cloying scent like other detergents do. I hope Target continues to carry this detergent, because I want to keep buying it!

Psst… you can get an Ultra Purex Natural Elements coupon here!

As long as it’s safe for my washer (high efficiency) and does a good job cleaning my clothes, I’m game. I recently decided to try Method Laundry Detergent, and you know what? I like it. For the longest time I skipped right past the Method products at my local Target, but now I wish I had given them the time of day a little sooner. Method Laundry Detergent is a greener alternative to other detergents, since it uses 95% natural and renewable ingredients. It’s non-toxic, and is available in a few scents that are light yet pleasing, and definitely not overpowering. Method Laundry Detergent has been doing a great job at cleaning our clothes. Another nice thing about the product is the pump action. No more measuring out detergent and sloshing it about — just 2-4 pumps of the push-top provides enough detergent for a load of laundry!
