On June 6th, 2010, I ordered this pair of prescription eyeglasses from Zenni Optical. On June 18th, they arrived, carefully wrapped in a anti-static, microfiber lens cleaning cloth, tucked in a white plastic eyeglasses case, packaged securely in a bubble-wrap lined mailing envelope. Twelve days from order date to arrival date — that’s not bad, seeing as how most optometrist offices don’t have custom-ordered glasses in for two weeks or more.
My opinion of the glasses? I love them. The frames and lenses are exactly as described, from size to color. They fit well, and the prescription is accurate, seeing as how I provided the numbers myself. Speaking of numbers, the one inconvenient part of the ordering process was finding my Pupillary Distance, or PD, number. The PD number represents the measurement, in millimeters, of the distance between your pupils. This is a measurement that you can take yourself, with the help of a family member or friend, but a home measurement isn’t always accurate. I found this out myself, when my husband’s measurements were inconsistent three times in a row. I had to call around to first my current optometrist and then my previous one, in order to get the correct number (which, as it turns out, wasn’t the same as any of the numbers my husband came up with. I’m glad I went the distance to find out what my PD really was!).
What sucks is that I had to even expend a lot of effort to find my PD in the first place. But it’s fairly common for optometrists to leave that number off of the prescriptions. Why? I don’t really know, but I have a hunch that they do that in order to kind of force their customers to stay with them, even though legally they have to provide you with your prescription. By leaving the PD number off of your prescription, or not giving it to you over the phone, they can persuade you to come in for another exam — which may cost money — and even persuade you to just order glasses from them. Unfortunately for my current optometrist, I wasn’t going to give in and go in for another exam. Instead, I called my previous optometrist, and they willingly gave me the number they had on file from my last visit with them back in 2001. That’s another thing — your PD, the distance between your pupils, never changes, so there’s no expiration on that number!
Bottom line: now that I finally know my PD number, I plan on ordering more prescription eyeglasses in the future. As a matter of fact, I have already ordered and am awaiting the arrival of a second pair, these gorgeous burgundy brown and hot pink frames:

I can’t say I’m very pleased with Frontier and their internet service, and it’s not even my own! It’s my mother’s, in fact. I’m not complaining about the speeds, since they’re just DSL. No, what I’m complaining about is the inconsistency with speeds, and the complete loss of internet service altogether (something that annoyed my mom since she was trying to look up prevera reviews, and I needed to check on some articles about baby shower favors). Not to mention the fact that their installation guys are apparently idiots…
In any case, after spending an unexpected hour at my mother’s house yesterday evening, with half an hour of that time being spent on the phone, I was able to straighten out the issue. A phone line needed to be plugged into the proper port, and the router’s broadcast had to be changed from channel 5 to channel 9. Fun. Now if there was only a way to bypass the router functionality the shitty little gateway thing offers and have it go directly into my mom’s Linksys router. Any suggestions?

I was recently sent two full-size bottles of Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Liquid Sunblock. The sunblock is designed to be very liquidy in consistency, which makes application very easy. If there’s one thing I hate about sunscreen, it’s the thicker varieties that don’t always blend in easily. As if applying stubborn sunscreen to myself isn’t bad enough, trying to get it applied thoroughly and evenly to two squirming preschoolers is even more difficult. There have unfortunately been a few instances where I missed a few random areas, which was evident with the resulting sunburn that showed up later that day.
Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Liquid Sunblock is available in SPFs of 55 and 70. In my opinion more is better, so I was happy to have the 70 SPF variety to try out. I burn and then tan, but I don’t burn nearly as fast as my son does. He’ll seriously get sunburned from being outside for less than half an hour on a cloudy day. It’s crazy! If there was ever a child whose skin color was close to #FFF, it’s my son.
In addition to having a decent SPF and a liquid consistency that makes the sunscreen easy to apply (seriously, it glides on as smoothly as liquid foundations!), Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Liquid Sunblock features Helioplex, which is stabilized technology that provides both UVA and UVB protection from the sun. The sunscreen is free of oils and PABA, and of course it is both waterproof and sweatproof. Have I mentioned how easy it is to apply? It’s the kind of thing you could easily apply on-the-go as you’re shopping with friends for clothes, makeup, baby shower decorations, whatever. And since it absorbs quickly and isn’t slippery, you’ll be ready to distribute promotional pens on a sunny day in no time!

My thoughts? The stuff works perfectly. I have been using it on myself and my children for the past several days, both on our faces and our bodies, and we survived three days in the sun and water without any sunburn. All three of us were in the water more than we were out of it this weekend, yet the initial application and one re-application was enough to protect us from the sun’s harmful rays. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Liquid Sunblock glides on very smoothly and easily, and its liquid consistency also means that less is more — a small coat of it is all we needed for adequate sun protection! It also smells nice and doesn’t leave a greasy or sticky residue, which earns brownie points in my book (there’s nothing I hate more than feeling sweaty and gross).
Psst… get yourself a $2 coupon to use towards any Neutrogena suncare product purchase!

Did you know that sitting on the toilet for an extended period of time isn’t good for you? The pressure and position can lead to an increased risk of hemorrhoids. Also, the pins and needles that kick in can be a real pain (no pun intended). For children, particularly young ones whose legs aren’t long enough to reach the floor, sitting on the toilet can be uncomfortable, which in turn can lead to discouraging them from using the toilet. Successful potty training begins with a child being ready, but making sure that child is comfortable is just as important!
With all that said, I am really excited to be reviewing the Little Looster. It is essentially a ’round the potty booster seat that is formed into a semi-circle; its design allows it to sit flush around the front and sides of the toilet, which provides a sturdy and perfectly-raised foundation for young children to use as an aid to getting onto and off the toilet, as well as a raised platform upon which they can place their feet while going to the bathroom. It’s perfect shape and flush fit against the toilet also means not having to move it out of the way when an adult needs to use the toilet!
My husband and I have been repainting the kids’ bathroom, so they haven’t had the chance to really use it yet, but it’s going into place tomorrow morning. I’ll let you know what we all think of it in a few days!
