Shopping for baby gifts

6 Apr 2008 Filed under: Reviews

You can find some really cute baby clothes at sandboxcouture.com. I’m looking at their site right now, because I’m trying to find some cute baby clothes for Ryan to wear this summer. I picked up seven or eight shirts and three pairs of shorts at Target, but I wanted to get him a few more things. It’s so hard to find baby boy and toddler boy clothes that aren’t character, sports or camo themed!

Just a little pet peeve of mine. I couldn’t stand receiving baby gifts that had no thought put into them. By baby gifts with no thought put into them I’m referring to the gifts we’d receive that woud be an outfit clearly for the other gender, or a totally inappropriately aged toy, or worse still, a can of formula. The formula was a big peeve because everyone knew I planned on breastfeeding. The formula, minus its “just in case!” note, went to a local women’s shelter.

It’s so easy to pick out some nice, thoughtful baby gifts if you just put a bit of time into it. Find out what the mother-to-be is having, or if she’s unsure or you can’t, go for unisex items (white, yellow, peach, light green). Find out what she really wants to have. If it’s a more expensive item, see about chipping in with others to cover the cost without breaking your budget.

Personalized music CD

5 Apr 2008 Filed under: Reviews

I recently had the opportunity to choose a personalized item from personalizedstories.com. As the name suggests, personalizedstories.com offers personalized kids’ items, including books, music CDs, DVDs, singing and talking stuffed animals, alarm clocks, poems and a few other items that are available for personalization.

Every item available at personalizedstories.com has hundreds of names available to choose the one you’re looking for from. Each name comes with a handy pronunciation guide, and a sample as well, so that if you’re ordering an item that plays audio (such as a CD or DVD), you can be sure to choose the proper name and pronunciation.

Since Alyssa has a lot of neat toys and trinkets, my husband and I decided to pick a music CD for Ryan:

The CD is adorable! In addition to hearing Ryan’s name pop up throughout the fourteen songs on the CD, his name is also printed on the label of the CD, along with a personalized message that we specified.

Not surprisingly, the CD is a hit. Ryan perks up whenever he hears his name, and Alyssa loves listening to “Ryan’s songs”!

Since Alyssa enjoys listening to Ryan’s CD so much, I might order one for her. Or perhaps I might order a DVD. I know she’d love to see her picture pop up throughout a cartoon!

Firefox 3.0 beta

4 Apr 2008 Filed under: Reviews

Firefox I realize that Firefox is a free browser, but I felt it deserved its own mention here on In My Bag. The primary reason for that being that without Firefox, particularly 3.0 (which is still in beta), I wouldn’t be updating nearly as much as I do, both this blog and all of my other blogs, because I can’t stand Internet Explorer.

Firefox 3.0 is still in beta, so I hesitated at downloading it. But I was frustrated with the continual yet random crashes that were occurring with Firefox 2.0, both on my desktop and my laptop. Uninstalling extensions, and then uninstalling Firefox 2.0 altogether and then re-installing it didn’t solve the problem. But removing Firefox 2.0 altogether and then moving onto Firefox 3.0 did solve the problem.

Again, I must stress that Firefox 3.0 is in beta, and “they” recommend that you use it for testing purposes only. However, I have been using Firefox 3.0 beta for almost two weeks now, and have had no crashes, no bugs, no glitches of any kind. In short, I’m definitely hooked on Firefox 3.0, and I eagerly anticipate the release of the final, stable version! :)
