Vision Direct

11 Apr 2008 Filed under: Reviews

On March 28th, 2008, I placed an order for a six month supply of contact lenses at Vision Direct. I double checked my order before submitting and paying for it, so I know that I supplied the correct name, mailing address, optometrist and prescription info.

Since I was ordering on the 28th of March, and didn’t need to replace my current contacts until the 9th of April, I went ahead and chose standard delivery, which, according to the website:

Shipping Time: 3-6 days

Since Vision Direct ships through US mail, meaning mail is delivered on Saturdays, I thought for sure I’d have my contacts by the 6th or 7th at the latest.

On April 8th, 2008, the day before my current contacts were set to explode be discarded, I called Vision Direct to inquire about the status of my order. I was informed that my contacts had been shipped the day before, with no explanation as to why there was a five day delay (weekends excluded; with weekends included it would be a ten day delay) between when I placed the order and when they shipped.

Liars. According to their website, my order was marked as shipped on the 8th.

And here we are, on the 11th of April. Still no contacts. My eyes are feeling scratchy. :(

Doo be doo

What the heck is Ping Golf? It sounds like a video game. And speaking of video games, my husband has been hopping from one game to the next lately. Guitar Hero 3, Final Fantasy, some game here, some other game here, and something else here. This is in between checking out dsl-mud.org. What a geek I’ve married!

No word from HP on the printer or a working driver. I’m getting antsy.

Baby clothes for you

10 Apr 2008 Filed under: Everything else

If you’re looking for baby clothes, look no further than sandboxcouture.com! Their clothes are definitely not run of the mill, and you won’t find them at a dime per dozen at your nearest K-Mart or Sears. :)

It’s funny how we moms get so into finding the cutest and most original baby clothes possible. I’m sure as my kids get older, it won’t be so important any more. Or perhaps it will? My daughter is going to be four this coming October, and I still love finding unique outfits to dress her in!

Good places to buy childrens clothes

10 Apr 2008 Filed under: Etc.

I tire of the same clothes that you see at most stores time and again. We do most of our non-food shopping at Target, so I buy the majority of the clothes my toddlers wear from there. I don’t do K-Mart or Wal-Mart, and because of the crowds and traffic, I stay away from the mall, which is where The Children’s Place, Baby Gap and Gymboree are at. Do you have any recommendations for other places? I came across sandboxcouture.com, which has a lot of childrens clothes, so I bookmarked them. But I’m looking for other websites as well!

If it helps, the clothing sizes I am looking for are 4T - 5T for a girl, and 4T for a boy.

Thanks in advance. :)

On the to-buy list

10 Apr 2008 Filed under: Everything else

I told my husband to start looking at desktop computers and laptop computers, and to find one that he likes. He has a desktop, but in my opinion, it’s a piece of crap. He built it himself, and it has gone through meltdown after meltdown over the past few years. In the last year alone he’s poured several hundred dollars worth of parts into it, and it is STILL acting up — random freezing, BSODs, blank BSODs (just a pure blue screen), and outright crashes.

My husband has always shunned company made computers, but like I’ve pointed out to him, my babies (HP a867c desktop and HP z8120cl laptop) have served me quite well over the years, as did the Compaq desktop I had before then did. Through countless reformats, jumping around from operating system to operating system, and daily use and running of ten hours a day and more… they last and last and last. Seriously, go HP!

The big 5-0

10 Apr 2008 Filed under: Etc.

My mom’s 50th birthday is coming up on April 26th. I’ve been joking around with her, threatening to serve up a black birthday cake (I might do it as a gag, and have the “real” cake on hand in case she cries, lol), offering to buy the best anti wrinkle cream I can find, and picking up several packs of Depends for her.

All kidding aside, my mom may be turning 50, but she certainly doesn’t look 50! In fact, we’re often mistaken as sisters. When I was younger I thought that was cool. But now, with 24 looming right around the corner (June 13th), it’s not so cool anymore. :/

Update #1 on the printer

10 Apr 2008 Filed under: Reviews

I thought I’d make an update on the progress of my HP Photosmart 8750 Professional Photo Printer. If you haven’t read the entry, or don’t feel like re-reading it, I was having some issues with printing due to there being a bug with the Windows Vista “compatible” driver that HP released, and these were my options:

  • Install Windows XP on either my desktop or laptop and print from there, as the border and sizing bug is exclusive to Windows Vista
  • Install Mac OS X Leopard on my laptop and try printing from there (again, the bug seems to be exclusive to Vista)
  • Deal with the borders and jaggedness
  • Bitch to the high heavens at HP
  • Upgrade to a printer that doesn’t have these issues
  • Find some sort of workaround

I really don’t want to keep Windows XP around just for printing purposes. That’s a ridiculous inconvenience. And my laptop’s new hard drive isn’t here yet, so I haven’t installed Mac OS X Leopard.

Dealing with borders and jaggedness? I don’t think so.

I’m waiting an email back from HP. Apparently the printer is out of warranty, so they’re not wanting to do squat. That’s ridiculous though — regardless of whether the printer is under warranty or not, HP should release a truly Windows Vista compatible driver, since this issue IS well known and documented with many unhappy owners of this printer, myself included.
