Holy baby stuff!

While in line at Target the other day, I admired the tiny, adorable newborn baby of the woman in front of me. She had an older baby in the seating basket of the shopping cart, a little guy that I guessed to be about a year old. Mom and I made eye contact, she smiled, so I said hi and asked how old the kids were. Twelve days and fourteen months. She then informed me that three more were with Dad in the store: four years, three years and 21 months!

Talk about stair step kids! I think I’d off myself before having that many, that close! Alyssa and Ryan are 21 months apart, and even that is pushing it! Just imagining the amount of baby clothes, bibs and baby bedding that woman is washing every week makes me want to weep for that woman, heh. I’m safely assuming she isn’t doing cloth diapers! Pampers it is!

Slings and bassinets, oh my!

Earlier today I drove by a local consignment shop that I used to go to a lot when Alyssa was little. In addition to purchasing a lot of secondhand clothes a few furnishings from there, I also sold stuff to the store owner, including two bassinets, a ring style sling from a place like hotslings.com, and a bunch of baby clothes.

Poor Alyssa. By the time Ryan came along, we were doing much better financially, and with the exception of stroller, car seat, crib and changing table, everything he had was brand new.

Oh well. It’s having the love that really counts, right? :) If so, she definitely has an abundance of it!

Frontier(s)

17 May 2008 Filed under: Etc.

I just watched the unrated trailer for the movie Frontier(s). For those interested, it has been out in select theaters since May 9th. I must admit, I am definitely not interested. Maybe it’s my own wussified personality, the fact that my mom let me watch Predator when I was four, or that The Blair Witch Project scared the crap out of me, but I do not like horror movies. I despise the terror, the suspense, the fear, the dread, the blood, the gore. Yech. Take it or leave it? I am definitely leaving it! Remember the SAW movies? I watched the first one, and only then because my mom and husband were watching it and badgered me into watching it as well.

Unknown

Now my husband and mother? I’m sure that if they saw the Trailer for Frontier(s), they would definitely be interested in seeing it. They LOVE horror and gore and all of that suspense and fear! And that’s fine with me — they can go together! I just checked the local listings at the website, and it’s playing in Philadelphia. So if they really wanted to see it, they could make the hour drive to Philly, WITHOUT me, lol.

Do you think you’ll want to see the movie?

My new toy!

I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am to finally be the happy owner of a Nikon SB-600 Speedlight. I have had my DSLR camera, the Nikon D40x, and its close relative, the Nikon D40, from June until September. I have been lusting after an external flash for quite a long time!

So, the flash is finally here. I purchased it this afternoon, around 3:15pm. It’s now 9:15pm. I mention times because here I am, with a sexy flash in my possession, and I haven’t even opened it yet! But, real life responsibilities to my children and home come first, so play time will have to wait until a little later…

My brother-in-law’s (well, the older of the two — I have two BILs and two SILs!) 24th birthday is just a week or so after mine (I turn 24 on June 13th). I really want to get him something nice this year. We had plans to do something nice last year, but they feel through. :( So anyway, I know he likes sports, and his girlfriend doesn’t, so when she buys things for him, she doesn’t get him anything sports-related. He loves football, and I’m pretty sure that one of his favorite teams is the Pittsburgh Steelers. So, I’m thinking about one of these jerseys:

The question is, which one? sidelineapparel.com has a lot of NFL football jerseys in general, and over a dozen ones on the Pittsburgh Steelers NFL Jerseys, Caps and Apparel page.

Hmm. I think I’m going to quiz both my husband and my other brother-in-law for suggestions!

Here’s where I break down and admit that I am a total, shameless loser. :) As a kid, you’d find me with my nose stuck in a book. Babysitter’s Club, Little Sister Karen, R.L. Stine, Christopher Pike, Judy Blume, and then I graduated to romance novels and the occasional non-fiction when I was in my early teens. I still love to read, actually. I just finished Anthony Bourdain’s Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly. Great read. I’m disappointed that I got through it so quickly!

Anyway, the point is, I was such an easy kid to buy Christmas and birthday presents for. Save the nfl jerseys for the other kids in the family; I wanted books! And legos! And k’nex! And Polly Pocket!

Come to think of it, my husband must be a bit of a loser too… he isn’t that much into sports, either. Oh, he makes a big deal out of seeing the Superbowl every year, but other than that he doesn’t watch a lick of football!

Thinking about NFL apparel

If you’re very into football, or you have a friend or family member that is, why not consider looking into sidelineapparel.com? One of the things I’m getting for my brother for his thirteenth birthday is a Pittsburgh Steeler’s t-shirt, and I was impressed of the line of NFL Apparel that sidelineapparel.com has to offer.

In addition to the t-shirt or jersey, I want to get him a gift certificate. I’m just not sure which store I should get him a gift card for. I could do GameStop, although I did that last year. He is really into books, so I could just do another Borders or B&N card. Or maybe go for the surefire one and pick Target? You can get anything at Target!
