  • Host a local fundraising event; or find a local fundraising event to participate with as a sponsor
  • Contribute to a local charity
  • Put together a car wash, dog walk, face painting or other fun event that will attract individuals and families
  • Rent space in stores and on local billboards for additional advertising

I’m following some of the recipes found in Micki Sannar’s Olive Oil Desserts, a book that she wrote which features her own recipes that use olive oil instead of butter. The idea to switch out butter and use olive oil instead is simple enough — olive oil is less fattening and contains less bad cholesterol-raising elements than butter does, so it makes sense to use it in place. Of course, baking with olive oil can be a little tricky, but Micki has taken the time to tweak her recipes in order to achieve the best possible results. But don’t put away those diet pills for women just yet, as olive oil contains fat, too. But it contains less, and the fat is healthier than what is in butter. :)

They’re loud, they’re obnoxious, and depending on the channel you’re watching, the same commercial will play in between airings of the show. While most commercials suck, ones that don’t vary suck even worse. But other commercials aren’t so bad. There’s one for medical assistant school, for instance, that I actually like. It’s upbeat, it futures real students. You can tell that the students took part in making the commercial, too. And I like that — it’s much more realistic than those dime-a-dozen commercials out there!

That’s why I have a nice desk chair (thanks Dan!), a widescreen monitor, a comfortable flat style keyboard (ever since getting my first laptop in February of 2006 I have never been able to go back to a “standard” administration job keyboard — the keys are just too thick!), and more recently, an ergonomic mouse from Smartfish Technologies (designed by people who wear men’s lab coats for a living!).

If you work from home, where you undoubtedly do not have the benefit of the right kind of office desk and office chair, I highly recommend that you do what you can to increase your comfort, because it’ll surely increase your productivity!

Acne is one thing I did not have to worry about as a teen, or even as a young adult. Even now, with all of the various hormonal issues significant weight loss has thrown my way, skin issues has not been one of them. At my skin’s “worst” I get a single zit on my chin or near my nose — big deal. But my brother suffers from major acne. Proactiv seems to help, but that stuff is expensive, and I don’t know if my mom’s budget can really accommodate it for him on a regular basis. I’ve advised him to save up his babysitting money to purchase his acne treatment products, but he gets too caught up with wanting to buy video games instead. *eyeroll*

And while I’d love to have new cabinets and counter tops, I’d like us to finish up our bathrooms first. Both bathrooms have a new paint job, but they’re still sporting the old hideous rose/salmon pink colored bathroom vanities. My dream is to rip those out and replace them with white bathroom vanities or pedestal sinks, get new mirrors, maybe some decor for the walls, and finally, new tile for the floor! Currently there’s plain, boring laminate down.

Once the bathrooms are done, THEN we can move on to the kitchen!
