I’ve quickly become a fan of semi-permanent dyes. They’re usually vegetable-based, and contain no ammonia or other products that strip color from hair, which means that once the dye rinses out (which will happen in less than a dozen shampoos, unless you take care to keep dye in your hair), you’re left with your normal hair color, and absolutely no damage.
A few weeks ago I picked up two bottles of Beyond the Zone Color Jamz. Another brand was my first choice, but since the store didn’t have my preferred color available, I opted for Color Jamz in Bubble Head Pink. The dye was easy to apply, had very little scent, and while it stained my hands and skin, it was easy to scrub off with a little bleach mixed with hand soap (note: a very little amount of bleach goes a long way!).
As far as color goes, wow, it’s definitely bright and true to color! I’ve been making the color last longer by mixing it into sulfate-free shampoo and a gentle conditioner (and rinsing the shampoo quickly so it can’t strip too much; as well as leaving the conditioner in for an extended period of time so that the dye can soak back into my hair), and rinsing with cold water (it seals in color better than hot or even warm water).

Beyond the Zone Color Jamz is cheaper than some of the other similar brands out there, and it works quite nicely and seems to provide a more vivid color that lasts longer, so I think this will be my new choice of hair dye.
