That’s a big question I get these days — exactly how do I receive so many free products to review? Until recently, I mainly just sat here, so to speak, and allowed the offers of product reviews and giveaways to come to me. I helped the progression along, of course, by making it clear that I am available for contact and am open to arrangements for product reviews, giveaways, and advertising collaborations. But I also participate on two very awesome Ning communities — both of these are all about product reviews and the like. Bloggers can share pitches from companies, and companies themselves are welcome to post! The communities are:
When contacting an advertiser to request a product to review, you should keep in mind that not all advertisers are looking for the same thing. Be sure to present yourself in a professional, upbeat manner, and make it clear to the advertiser that you are genuinely interested in their company and its products and services, not just in getting your hands on a free item. Be truthful about your site stats, because with sites like Compete.com, it’s very easy to verify them.
Don’t be afraid to negotiate with an advertiser. If they would like you to review an upcoming movie, ask if they would be willing to provide you with extra theater tickets, so that your friends or family can also give their input. Or, use those movie tickets in a giveaway!
When you do succeed in making an arrangement for a product review, keep an open line of communication with the advertiser. Thank them for the opportunity, notify them when you receive the product, and be sure to deliver on your review by the promised date (if for some reason you can’t, be courteous and let them know). Always follow up to thank the advertiser again, and to make sure that they are happy with what you have posted.
Happy product review hunting!
