Fantage, short for Fantastic Age, is a FREE virtual online world that is just for kids! Unlike other virtual online worlds and communities, Fantage is designed specifically for children as young as three years old. The company that manages the website and community takes several steps to ensure childrens’ safety, including disallowing the use of names or other identifying personal information or inappropriate content in member names (usernames) and chat. Depending on the age of the child registering, a parent’s email address is required. Upon successful registration, a confirmation and activation link will be sent to the parent’s email address, and the parent is then presented with the option to enable all chat, safe chat only, or no chat at all.
Once a member is successfully registered and the parental permissions have been set, they can then start exploring Fantage! Once you’re registered and “in” for the first time, you’ll be presented with an awesomely detailed video that is fast enough to show you the many aspects of Fantage in a short amount of time, but long enough that you won’t miss anything. You’re welcomed to the community, and then rewarded with 500 Stars (points) in exchange for agreeing to keep your personal and confidential information to yourself.
Now you’re ready to go! One of the first places you’re introduce to is Le Shop — the coolest place for all of the Fantage kids, of course. In Le Shop you can find outfits, separate pieces, and a variety of accessories (including jewelry, makeup, and skin tones) for your Fantage character. You’ll need a premium membership or eCoins to purchase anything, however. A premium membership is as little as $5.99, and there are discounts if you opt for a bi-yearly or yearly membership. eCoins are coins you can purchase as you go. Both premium memberships and eCoins can be purchased with credit cards, PayPal, gift cards, and special One Game Cards, which are cards specifically for Fantage.
Besides the awesome Le Shop, the Fantage world offers other shops, interactive beaches and cafes, and of course plenty of games! There are classic favorites like Tic-Tac-Toe and puzzles, but there are many others, too.
Both my five year old daughter and my twelve year old brother played Fantage, and both love it! It’s kid-friendly and appropriate for children of all ages, seriously. Both my five year old daughter, who can’t read yet; and my twelve year old brother, who thinks he’s too “cool” for kid stuff, had a fabulous time socializing with other uses, playing games, buying accessories in Le Shop, playing games, etc. I appreciated the idea of a safe haven for them both to participate in, without me having to hover over their shoulders every other minute to make sure the content and interaction with the other users is safe. 
Interested in trying out Fantage? Register for free, pick out your character, and you’re ready to go! Want to have a premium membership so that you can purchase anything in the shop, or use eCoins in order to pick up things as the urge strikes you. But if you or your child plan on making Fantage a regular thing, I’d highly recommend just going ahead and getting a membership. It’s just $5.99 per month!
