Truvia (that’s true-vee-a) is a natural sweetener that can be used in place of sugar. For diabetics, post-op gastric bypass patients like me, and anyone who is wanting to control how much sugar they consume, natural alternatives to sugar are an ideal choice. Truvia is made from rebiana, which is derived from stevia leaves. Stevia plants are native to Paraguay, and they have been used to sweeten foods and drinks for over two hundred years.
In addition to being a natural sweetener, Truvia has absolutely no calories, yet the same sweet taste of sugar. It can be used just as sugar is, so feel free to stir it in your coffee, sprinkle it on your fruit or top your morning cereal with it. You can even bake with Truvia, and achieve the same results as you would with sugar by using the Truvia conversion chart.
I’m going to be receiving a box of Truvia to review, and I plan on sharing it with my husband (a total sugaraholic), my children, and even my mother, who is diabetic and needs to be as careful as I am about her sugar intake.
