Early this month I posted a teaser about Hollywood Brushes. As I mentioned in that teaser, HollywoodBrushes.com was kind enough to send me three of their popular brushes: the round smudge brush, which is perfect for creating blended, smoky looks; the medium foundation brush, which as the name suggests is great for applying cream or powder concealer and foundation; and the blush brush, which is ideal for creating highlights and shades on the cheekbones and all over the face.

DSC_4753 Each brush is very smooth to the touch, with a matte finish that doesn’t slip out of your grasp. The bristles themselves are firm enough to easily brush through shadow palettes and pick up color, yet soft and malleable enough to easily glide over my eyelids and leave behind a full coat of color.

I have had the opportunity to try the round smudge brush with several brands of eye shadow, including NARS, Sephora, and Urban Decay, and even retail store brands like Hard Candy and L’oreal. With each the brush has performed perfectly, picking up enough shadow to coat my eyelids evenly. It also plays nicely with the creamy shadow primer I always use on my lids. What always drove me crazy about the standard shadow applicators is 1) getting enough shadow on the applicator 2) the bits that would flake off onto my eyelashes and cheeks during application and 3) the streaky application that would often occur when I’d apply the shadow directly after applying the creamy shadow primer. I have had none of these issues with the round smudge brush. Layers of shadow go on smoothly and evenly, and it’s easy to angle the brush upwards and/or inwards in order to get shadow onto the inner parts of my eyeslids, and I can then angle the brush outwards and slightly downwards in order to evenly apply shadow to the outer corners of my eyelids.

Here are a few examples of my makeup applied with the brushes:

I use the medium foundation brush to apply cream-based foundation, and it too performs like a charm. Prior to receiving the brushes from Hollywood Brushes I would simply use my fingers. While that works fine, it’s nice to use a brush, since I don’t have to worry about washing a bunch of gunk off of my hands afterward.

Finally, the blush brush. I don’t normally wear blush, but I do like to accentuate and highlight my cheekbones with a sweep of subtle shimmer or a bolder glitter. The shimmers and glitters I use are powdery and very fine, and tend to blow away at the drop of a hat. I typically apply a very thin coat of shadow primer to my cheekbones prior to applying the shimmer and glitter. When I’ve used my fingers to apply the shimmer or glimmer, I would end up with more of it on my fingers than on my cheekbones! Using the blush brush solved this problem. Plus, the wide brush with its sweeping and rounded base makes it easy to apply just one single layer in one wide stroke (as opposed to usin my fingers which would often require 2-3 applications that weren’t always evenly distributed).

Excess makeup is easily tapped off of the brushes, and a quick run under warm water and a tiny bit of mild hand soap is all it takes to remove build-up, particularly from cream-based foundations and shadows.

In summary, I would definitely recommend Hollywood Brushes’ professional makeup brushes. They have made all the difference in the world for both the application and look of my makeup!

Very nice! I’m kind of glad that I don’t wear makeup that often though because I’d probably start hoarding it and spending tons of money I don’t have on it >_<

Your eyes are wow by the way <3
