I have been a faithful user of Arm & Hammer cat litter for years. Literally, years. I don’t think I’ve used anything other than Arm & Hammer since 2003. But that recently changed, thanks to my beloved Target. They had a special going for Tidy Cats — $10.99 for a 38 lb. bucket. And if you purchased two containers, you would get a $5 gift card. In my mind, that’s the same as paying just $8.49 for nearly 40 lbs. of cat litter, so I said why not and picked out two buckets, Instant Action (blue) and 24/7 Performance (red).
So far I’ve just been using Instant Action, since even four cats aren’t going to go through 38 lbs. of cat litter in just two weeks (especially if you scoop daily — that right there is the best tip I can give you in terms of prolonging the life of cat litter!). The first thing I noticed is that each individual piece of litter is definitely bigger than Arm & Hammer’s, but not so much that it interferes with clumping. However… the clumping action isn’t as good as I would like it to be (Arm & Hammer definitely does better). I don’t mind scooping litter, or even spending a little more time scooping out all of the soiled bits, but when a clump winds up disintegrating and prematurely “ruining” the surrounding litter, I get a little annoyed.
In terms of odor control, Tidy Cats definitely excels. I’d go so far as to say that Tidy Cat does better than Arm & Hammer in that department. Now if the clumping action could just get up to par…
