I’m currently typing this with a head full of hair dye — Manic Panic, to be exact. It’s a vegetable-based dye, which is exactly what I need for my hair. I’ve lost a significant amount of hair due to a protein deficiency (due to my gastric bypass surgery), so the last thing I want to do is apply bleach- or ammonia-based dyes that might damage my hair further. So, vegetable-based, bleach- and ammonia-free dye it is!
So far, so good. Manic Panic stained my fingers and forehead, as I expected it to, but there’s virtually no odor, and none of the scalp burning and itching that often accompanies a regular hair dye product. I chose , but since I didn’t bleach my hair beforehand, I’m not expecting my hair to turn a bright, hot pink. I am hoping for, however, some pink/red highlights and a nice all-over sheen.
Well, it’s time to go rinse the dye out. I’m going to follow up with a vinegar rinse, and then I’ll dry and style as usual. I’ll post before & after photos, so you can see for yourself how well (or poorly, as the case could potentially be) this stuff works!

I adore Manic Panic! I really hope you enjoy it. You do have to bleach to get the bright, bold colors, but you should get some deffinition depending on the shade of your current hair color. I also found that the longer you leave it on, the better the color. It’s the bonus to having no harsh chemicals! You could sleep with it in, if you wanted!
It works! I bleached a few of my dreads before applying a hot pink. It may have been cotton candy. The color was awesome. I had to dye them back dark brown though, since I was going to a conference. I’ve since purchased fake dreads in the color, so I can remove them if need be.
