Upcoming review: Clear Care
I have been wearing contact lenses for a little over two years, and during that time I have used standard no-rub contact lens solution to rinse and store my contacts in overnight. Up until recently I’ve had no problems with my contacts; in fact, I have been able to wear them for up to two weeks longer than recommended (I use monthly disposables) with little to no discomfort. But lately I’ve been noticing protein deposits on my contacts. They appear as white cloudy areas, and while I can’t feel them, I can certainly see them. They interfere with my vision and drive me crazy. It’s especially bad when I’m folding kids clothes or driving. So I switched to a new pair of contacts last month a week ahead of time, and this month I had to start a new pair two weeks sooner than recommended because I ripped a contact while trying to clean the protein deposits off.
What’s ironic about this is that due to my gastric bypass surgery and a subsequent stricture, I am not getting enough protein in. I’m suffering from a protein deficiency, yet my body still finds that there’s enough to excrete it out of my eyeballs. Go figure.
Anyway, after searching the internet for suggestions and recommendations, I went out and picked up Clear Care. It’s a special contact lens solution that is made up of 3% hydrogen peroxide, which reacts with a special metal gear that is inside of the special bottle I need to store my contacts in. I’m instructed to place each of my contacts in the appropriately marked (left & right) dome lens holders, rinse the entire contraption for five seconds, then place the contraption inside the bottle, which is filled with the special solution. As my husband pointed out, the 3% hydrogen peroxide reacts with the metal, which creates the bubbling and fizzing action that assists with sterilizing and cleaning the contact lenses.
Tonight is my first night using this solution with my contacts. I’ll get back to you in a few weeks with the results!
