Zojirushi rice cooker
Part of living more frugally in 2010 means eating at home a lot more, and eating home-cooked foods instead of semi- or fully prepared foods. So I’ve been doing a lot more in the kitchen, including using recipes more frequently, breaking out different kinds of seasonings, and using various kitchen appliances even more. One appliance that I finally broke in tonight is a Zojirushi rice cooker. My mother gave it to me at least two years ago, but I’ve been sadly neglectful of it, leaving it to sit and collect dust in one of my kitchen cabinets.
Now? I just may find a permanent spot for the Zojirushi rice cooker on my kitchen counter, or at least closer to the front of the kitchen cabinet I keep it in. This thing is awesome! Simply plug it in and go: measure appropriate amounts of water, butter, herbs, whatever, toss it all in and push the lever down to “cooking”. I’m guessing the rice cooker has its own internal scale, because it seemed to know exactly when the ingredients of my particular recipe were ready to switch from “cooking” to “keep warm” (simmer). Right now the rice is staying beautifully hot and fluffy, and I couldn’t be any more pleased with this appliance!
