I had gastric bypass surgery in November 2009, and since then I have had to focus on consuming 60 – 75 grams of protein per day. Obviously this is an issue when certain foods aren’t tolerated and I can’t eat a lot. Protein supplements in liquid or powder form make up the vast difference between the protein I get through foods and the protein I need for the day. I’m all about packing in as much protein in small portions as I can, so when I saw that GNC carried IDS Sports New-Whey Liquid Protein, I was all for it.
IDS Sports New-Whey Liquid Protein offers an impressive 42 grams of protein in a 3.1 ounce juice that is available in several flavors, including fruit punch, blueberry and orange. Of the three, fruit punch sounded the most palatable, so I bought two. I tried one… and dear god, it took me close to an hour of sipping to choke it down. It tastes like no fruit punch I have ever had. Worse still, it’s thick and syrupy and sickeningly sweet (even though the sugar content is low). But I did get it down, so it isn’t all bad, since it is palatable, even if it doesn’t taste good. Bottom line: I’m grateful to be able to consume 42 grams of protein in just 3.1 ounces of liquid, even if that liquid is rather unpleasant tasting.
