Too Faced Shadow Insurance

Category:

I have been wearing makeup for twelve years. And one thing I have battled for the last twelve years is creased and transferred eye shadow. Regardless of brand, creme or matte finish, the shadow on my eyelids would always make its way to the skin above my eyelids — the lower brow area, I suppose it’s called. I dealt with it by wiping it off with a damp tissue or my finger when I’d see it. Silly me, I didn’t realize there were special primers and things to keep shadow in its place.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance One such primer is Too Faced Shadow Insurance, and I picked up a tube of it last month at Sephora. I was hoping it would work, especially since it cost me $17! According to the manufacturer, a dot-sized amount applied to the lids no more than 30 seconds before applying shadow is all it takes to keep shadow on the lids and off of the rest of your face. No transfers, no creasing, no smudging, no fading.

I have been using the eyeshadow primer for about five weeks now, and I’m happy to report that it does work as advertised. It does seem like I don’t have to apply as much color to get bright, bold results, and for the most part shadow is still staying in place. I get some occasional lower-brow-transfer, but nothing like I used to experience before I used Shadow Insurance.

The proof is in the pudding… here are some photos of my makeup (with Shadow Insurance), after it had been on for at least two hours:

  1. What colour is it when it goes on? did you notice if it helped or hindered blending? I just bought Urban Decay Potion Primer and was really surprised at how well it worked; you seem to have deep set eyes like I do which is such a culprit when it comes to creasing. Arg. UDPP comes in a ridiculous tube, however; it becomes nearly impossible to use all the product and you have to cut it open to do so. I’ve seen the tuts online and so do not look forward to doing that myself.

It’s foundation-colored in the tube and on my finger, but once I put it on it seems to disappear into my skin tone. It seems to work fairly well, but since I have heard such ridiculously good things about Urban Decay’s primer, I’m probably going to try it out anyway!
