My mother is a sucker for overpriced, gimmicky stuff. But sometimes she buys things that are actually pretty useful. One perfect example of an overpriced item that turned out to be pretty awesome is the LitterLocker. Think of it as the feline equivalent of the Diaper Genie — it locks away soiled litter clumps. My mom gave it to me last month, after realizing it was sitting in her house going to waste since she doesn’t have any cats (one of her cats died last February, I took another one last April, and the third one came to live with us last July).
The LitterLocker is designed to lock away litter in a very long garbage bag, which comes in a reel type refill (that also resembles the Diaper Genie’s refill cartridge). You simply scoop litter into the dumping area of the LitterLocker, close the lid, then turn the large dial on the side forward to compress the litter and feed it into the middle of the reel. Rinse and repeat as needed until full. That’s it. This product is very simple. No batteries to worry about replacing, no electrical cord to find an outlet for, no air filters to have to replace. And according to the product instructions, the LitterLocker should last a one cat household up to two months.
I have four cats, so obviously I am not getting two months of use out of one refill unit. I am getting close to three weeks, however, which is nice. The LitterLocker does work exactly as expected. It’s easy to use, easy to reload, and is absolutely flawless in locking away the odors. While the refills are a little pricey, I’d definitely recommend this product to anyone who wants a quicker and easier way of disposing of cat litter.
