Two residences ago Dan and I lived in a small, two bedroom cottage. One corner of our living room was taken up by a wood burning stove. I thought it was rather quaint, though at the same time I was pretty annoyed with how much space it took up. The stove itself was pretty big, and it was set upon a special brick platform, which jutted out from the corner and took out even more space.
Of course, we moved in during August, when it was hot and muggy and gross and I couldn’t wait to get the air conditioning units in the windows. It wasn’t until the following January that I really appreciated having a wood burning stove. You see, wood burning stoves can save homeowners and renters alike a lot of money. Our little cottage was heated with electric baseboards. Our home was pretty small, but it was drafty, especially around the front door and in our bedroom. So despite our home’s small size, our electric bill was pretty high. So to save money, we would occasionally use the wood burning stove. A few times my husband put firewood and sticks in, other times we would just throw paper in to get things going.
Wood burning stoves are definitely quaint, and while I’m glad we don’t have one in our current home, simply because the living room is much smaller, I do miss the heat that they offer. Just think about how cool it would be to roast hot dogs and s’mores in your own living room!
A wood burning stove or fireplace allow you to do just that. And with wood burning stoves in particular, you have the option of many different styles, including some in-wall varieties. So when it comes to heating your living room, or dining room, or whatever room you’d want to put a wood burning stove into, you can choose a style of stove that fits the room size and style best!
