Maybelline Colossal Volum’ Express

Categorized in:

Maybelline Colossal Volum' Express For me, mascara is a must-have. Even if I skip the eye shadow (rare), or forget about eyeliner (occasionally), I crave mascara for that “finished” look. To me, nothing looks better than thick, lengthy, well-defined lashes. So, I always have a tube or two of mascara on me, and I’m always up for shopping around and trying out new types of mascara.

One such mascara I have recently tried out is Maybelline’s Colossal Volum’ Express. It advertises as being big on volume without the clumps, but in my experience it seems that this mascara is better for providing length.

Here’s the mascara in action:

According to the Colossal Volum’ Express info, to get volume and definition, simply keep piling on the coats of mascara, without letting any prior coatings dry before you add the next. Well, I’ve tried that, and you know what I wind up what? Clumps. I’ve tried several times, and the best I can hope for is decently lengthy lashes, without the volume and thickness I crave. So, I’ve solved that problem by using a special first “plumping” coat from another brand of mascara, and then finishing off with Maybelline’s Colossal Volum’ Express. But, that defeats the purpose of just using one mascara to do the job!

Another problem I have with this mascara? It runs like an Olympic contestant who’s ten feet from the finish line with the competition hot on his heels. Seriously. I understand that this mascara is not waterproof, but I expect it to have at least some staying power through the occasional splash of rewetting drops (I wear contacts) or bit of rain, just as my other mascaras do. In my experience, this mascara runs like the dickens at the slightest hint of moisture, so I would not recommend using it if you’re going to be hitting up some exercise equipment.

And finally, it has a weird smell! I’m not sure what it is, but it can be rather off-putting, especially early in the morning, when I’m usually tired and feeling a bit queasy. Someone online suggested that the odd smell may be the collagen that is used in the mascara. I don’t know, but whatever it is, it’s a bit funky!

I haven’t tried the Maybelline one, but there is a mascara by Wet N Wild that I use, MegaPlump. It works well in my opinion, but then again, I’ve been told more than once that my lashes don’t need it! LOL

Yep. This mascara is nothing but clumps…I got the same result.

You should check out Lash Stiletto and review it. Its personally my favorite, leaves your eyelashes long and pretty WITHOUT overdoing it, and all the clumps and shit.
