Media hysteria is the perfect term I can think of when it comes to the current swine flu situation. Every news channel you flip to, and that’s all they’re talking about. Today my husband and I took our son to McDonald’s, and even their television was showing live satellite webcasts coming from the White House about the swine flu and the possibility of the president and first lady themselves getting it. Geez.
I mean, I know it’s a serious situation, but speculating and worrying isn’t going to change anything. We need to be proactive with hand washing, sanitation, and so on and so forth. I’ve definitely been more vigilant with washing my hands and using hand sanitizer after handling money or touching objects in public, and I’m doing the same with my kids.
Here’s to hoping that my local area doesn’t get hit with it. So far four cases have been confirmed in my state, and that’s four too many, as far as I’m concerned!
P.S. Right now it definitely pays to have a work-at-home job, such as Irvine tech support. No interaction with people means being less likely to get sick!
