Flickr is a very popular photo-sharing service, and with good reason. The website’s up-time is phenomenal. I can count on one hand the number of times the service or any part of the website has been down for me, and I have been using Flickr for photo storage for two and a half years.

Flickr offers two types of accounts: a basic, free account and a premium, paid account. With a basic account, you can only upload up to 200 photos, and are limited on the number of sets and collections you can create. If you upload more than 200 photos, the first photos you uploaded will not be available for viewing, commenting on or sharing. A premium account, which is $25 per year, lifts all limitations on the number of photos you can upload and sets and collections you can create.

Sets can be organized within collections. This is a great way to organize photos by year and individual month, as I do. I have collections named 2003, 2004, 2005, etc., and inside each collection are the sets of organized photos I took during that year.

In addition to organizing photos into sets and collections, you can use tags to help with categorization. Tags can be searched on a per-user basis (meaning you can see what photos a user has tagged with “blue”, for example), and even on a global basis.

Flickr allows for favoriting photos, commenting on them and sharing them.

I would definitely recommend Flickr to anyone who is looking for free or premium online photo storage service!
