Sometimes I worry about the media and its effect on children, particularly girls. The other day Alyssa and I were in Target together, and she was drawn to a colorful display for diet pills (I forget the brand — SlimQuick maybe?). You know, having bright colors, whimsical designs and dry-humored, sentimental illustrations doesn’t make the crime of shoving body and self-esteem issues at children any more acceptable.
That reminds me of Dove. The same company that paid to have its plus-size models airbrushed and slimmed down turns right around and hosts “self esteem” workshops for women. Seriously? Are you kidding me!!?

Sometimes, being a parent of a child in the modern society is really hard as you may feel helpless in controlling all kinds of bad influence on them. Along with the development of communication technology, the children are more exposed to the outside environment than ever before. As far as I’m concern, the best way to protect your children and to lead them into having right living attitude is to become a good model for them.
