Power Sentry Office Workstation Surge Protector
One computer, one monitor, three printers, USB hub, camera dock, Nikon battery charger, a phone, modem, router, Vonage device, print server and desk lamp translates into fourteen power cords. Two standard surge protectors should do the job, except that while each one has eight outlets, many of my power cords are the bulky adapter type, so they wind up hogging up more than one outlet space.
Enter the Power Sentry Office Workstation Surge Protector. It features 12 outlets, six of which are adapter friendly — meaning power adapters can be plugged into those slots without preventing the neighboring outlets from being used.
The surge protector has a lot of features, including light indicators, cord management and options for plugging in three phone lines. In addition, all twelve outlets have child-safe locks that slide into place.
I’m happy to report that I was able to plug in all of my devices between the Power Sentry surge protector and a squid style surge protector. However, the six adapter slots were not wide enough to accommodate the bulkiest of my adapter cords, so I had to get creative with plug arrangement.
Also, and my fingers are still smarting from this: many of the outlets were rather stiff and unyielding when it came to inserting plugs into them. I double and triple checked to make sure that the child safety locks were off, but still had a hell of a time getting some of the plugs in. I finally made sure the surge protector was unplugged, and then had to apply a lot of force into working the plugs in. They finally all made it in.
Bottom line, this is a good surge protector, and it does accommodate a lot of plugs, but you’ll need strong hands or a man around to get the plugs in.
