My hair is naturally thick, straight and coarse. It’s the thickness and coarseness that cause me problems with styling my hair — namely, trying to brush my hair. So I consider conditioner to be an absolute must. I also try to look for shampoos and conditioners that are extra moisturizing and softening.
In the past, when my hair was colored, one of my favorite shampoo and conditioner duos was Herbal Essences for color treated hair. Now that my hair is in its natural state (it has been for almost two years), I no longer need hair products designed to tackle the dryness, coarseness and damage caused by coloring and bleaching, but I do still need a little extra assistance with handling thick and coarse hair that wants to mat together when wet.
So when I was at the store a few months ago, I couldn’t find Herbal Essences’ hydrating line, but I did take a liking to the Herbal Essences Drama Clean line. My hair is definitely in its natural state, but with winter and cold, dry air and then dry, forced heat indoors, it was looking a bit dull, so I decided to try out the Drama Clean shampoo and conditioner and see how it did.
Like the other Herbal Essences products I’ve used in the past, the shampoo and conditioner do smell good. Maybe not as herbal-y as the original Herbal Essences did, but good enough for me! My hair did look a bit better afterward, and with the use of the conditioner, my hair was sleek enough (and probably coated as well, ick) to run a brush through.
The stuff does work, but it leaves behind a coating that my makes my hair look just a little too shiny afterward. And it’s a coating that you can definitely feel by the next day.
