My great-uncle always said shoulda, coulda, woulda in response to any family member lamenting over what they should have done, what they could have done, or what they would have done. Interesting response… kind of makes you think, while at the same time makes you roll your eyes in exasperation.
But his response would be perfect for what my mom and I were talking about the other day - the fact that my grandfather (my great-uncle’s brother) should have looked into a truck accident lawyer after he had an accident while on the job with his big rig. But he never did. In fact, he never even went to the doctor. He was in his late twenties at the time, and despite being young and healthy, that accident wrecked his back and hips for life. :(
