After five months of having monthly phone bills that were over $130, despite having nothing but local service, no extras or long distance, I got fed up and decided to switch to Vonage. I was lured by the promise of paying $25 a month for service. So I browsed around, talked to my husband about it, and jumped ship.
Seven months later, I’m still with Vonage. My bill comes to $28 and some change each month, and I couldn’t be happier. I have local service and long distance service. I have caller ID, call waiting, three way calling, call forwarding and a few other features that I never use, but nonetheless have. I also have voicemail. We have an answering machine, but the voicemail is great because it catches calls that come in when I’m on the phone with somebody and don’t feel like switching over to get the new call.
The only downside to having a phone service that requires an active internet connection is that when the internet goes down (whether it’s a blip on Comcast’s part or a power outage), so does the phone service. But we have cell phones to fall back on, so that’s okay. And we still don’t miss any calls, because we have our account set to forward any calls to my cell phone in the event of our Vonage service being off.
