FreeCycle

FreeCycle isn’t your typical “service”, because you don’t pay anything to partake in it, but I thought I would talk about it anyway.

FreeCycle is a free service where people can join localized groups to offer items they don’t want. In addition to offering unwanted items, members can request items.

The only stipulation to using FreeCycle is that you may not request money or other compensation in exchange for offering your items. You are free to offer anything and to make arrangements for those items to be picked up (or you may drop them off), but you may not sell anything.

I have been using FreeCycle for a little over a year, and have given plenty to it: hundreds of dollars worth of toys, baby clothes and baby items, a sofa, a recliner, a living room chair, a kitchen table set, and many other odds and ends.
I have also gotten a lot from FreeCycle, all of which I am very thankful for: a dishwasher, a lawn mower, an extra crib mattress, baby and toddler clothes, some toys, cloth diapers, DVD player, VCR, three televisions (two for my brothers, and one for ourselves), and a gorgeous dining room set (hutch & table set), and some other things I can’t think of at this moment.

FreeCycle is a great way to reuse items before they wind up in landfills.
